Individual Therapy

Services at Tula Therapy honor your own unique neurology and operate from the belief that some clinical diagnoses within the standard medical model are natural variations of the human brain, rather than deficits or disorders to be "fixed". The intention of our work is to dismantle shame while creating a deeper, more compassionate view of self.

Natalie specializes in managing symptoms commonly associated with anxiety.

Folks often seek support from Natalie to:

  • help identify and understand their emotions

  • understand the parts of themselves that needed anxiety to cope/survive

  • elevate self-esteem and internal narratives

  • build coping strategies, with consideration of individual sensory needs

  • improve interpersonal relationships

  • understand their own unique communication patterns

  • skill build around establishing, improving, and maintaining boundaries with others

  • increase confidence in self-advocacy

  • identify potential adaptations in home, work, & social environments to better support individual needs

  • process difficult life experiences

There is no "one size fits all" approach, as each individual experiences and interacts with the world in their own unique way. The therapeutic process looks different for everyone. Natalie's intention is to establish a solid therapeutic relationship upon which you can begin to uncover your own unique path to feeling more balanced emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Compassion-Focused Integrative Therapy

Integrative therapy assesses and appreciates the whole person, considering context and life experiences when discussing areas of growth. Often times, the present day patterns that bring people to therapy became habitual because they were once helpful and/or protective in nature. Together, with self-compassion and curiosity, we'll consider how these patterns became established in the first place and build up from there.

Integrative therapy is all about helping you find and maintain balance in all the ways: emotionally, mentally, and physically. It's not just about your thoughts & emotions, but also your social relationships, your physical health, and perhaps even a sense of connection to something bigger than yourself. The approach is individualized to each person, strengths-based, and tailored to what's happening in your own unique "here and now".

The goal is to develop a compassionate understanding of the "why" behind the patterned thoughts and behaviors that bring you to therapy. What follows is a collaborative experience that fosters a more harmonious & wholehearted relationship with yourself. This opens the door to feeling more at ease across all areas of life.

Mindfulness Based Therapy

Mindfulness is more than just a buzz word. We know now, thanks to science and research, that the practice of mindfulness has multiple benefits. One of the most notable is the opportunity to regulate and calm an over-reactive "fight/flight/freeze" response.

This can present itself in all sorts of ways: physically (muscle tension, heart palpitations, sleep disturbances), mentally (distraction, trouble focusing), emotionally (trouble regulating mood, hyper-vigilance/fear, short fuse, desire to isolate from others). Think of a tightly squeezed fist versus a relaxed palm.

If you feel like you might have a nervous system that is stuck in "clench" mode, ask Natalie about using evidence based yoga & mindfulness tools in session. Breath & movement together are incredibly grounding and can be combined with more "traditional" talk therapy approaches to allow for a holistic approach to feeling better.

Person Centered Approach

Regardless of the methodology or interventions used, your therapy is about you and your story. The presence of a therapist, a non-judgmental neutral party, can make all the difference. At the end of the day, every human deserves to feel seen & heard.

Natalie applies elements of a combination of different evidence based approaches. Approaches used are highly dependent on individual presentation. Commonly used approaches include Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Attachment-Focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), Compassion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, and Narrative Therapy. If you have questions about specific types of therapy approaches, including what might be the best fit for you, please ask.

Making the first step to seek support is often the hardest part, and Natalie wants to help make it feel comfortable in every way possible.
